Marius Čiurlionis

Head of the Palliative Care Department at National Cancer National Cancer Center (NCC) | Lithuania

Marius Ciurlionisis the Head of the Palliative Care Department. He has extensive experience of organising nursing services, long-term care services and palliative care in Lithuania. Today, Marius is like a goodwill ambassador representing the National Cancer Center and participating in the process of becoming a Comprehensive Cancer Center. Previously, as an advisor to the Minister of Health, he was responsible for developing nursing and long-term care in Lithuania. He has good cooperative relations with EU countries and many years of experience in various nursing, long-term care and palliative care societies and associations. He developed guidelines for these services in Lithuania and participated in creating and digitising questionnaires used to triage patients and determine which services they require active inpatient nursing, home nursing or palliative care. At the NCI, Marius established a Palliative Care Department for cancer patients. He is the founder and chairman of the Baltic Palliative Care Association. He has participated in many international projects, such as HORIZON, in his capacity as an officer of the Ministry of Health. He has also participated in expert activities in this capacity. He is currently a PhD student at the University of Oslo.
