Hans Sijbesma

Hans has significant general management and international business experience within the pharmaceutical industry. Over the past 17 years he has held various Managing Director positions for AstraZeneca. Since March 2022, Hans is Area Vice President Central & Eastern Europe and Baltics, which encompasses 16 countries and circa 1200 employees. Before this he was Country President of AstraZeneca in Germany for a period of more than 5 years. During 2016, Hans worked in the UK as Managing Director of AstraZeneca’s global Antibiotics Business Unit, combining both the international development and commercial functions. From 2005 until 2015, Hans worked for AstraZeneca as Country President & Managing Director in several other European countries, including Italy, Belgium and The Netherlands, where he was also Chairman of the board of the Dutch Association of Pharmaceutical companies. Before joining AstraZeneca in 2001, Hans worked for the German pharmaceutical company Altana and the European Headquarters of Yamanouchi (nowadays Astellas), where he held various national and international commercial roles. Education: Hans has a master’s degree in Medical Biology from the University of Utrecht and a PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Leiden, The Netherlands. He performed his dissertation research at Solvay Pharmaceuticals in The Netherlands
