Dr. Magali Sarafian

Team Lead Metabolomics & Proteomics at Bioaster | France

Dr. Magali Sarafian completed her PhD and postdoctoral training in Computational and Systems Medicine at Imperial College London, where she focused on bile acid metabolism and oxysterol profiling. Her research explored how these metabolic pathways are shaped by the microbiome and influence diseases such as obesity and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). During this time, she also began integrating transcriptomics data into her work.

Over the years, Dr. Sarafian has developed a strong research focus on the complex interactions between the gut and host, with particular interest in gut-derived metabolites that modulate immune responses and metabolic health. She is especially passionate about leveraging multi-omics approaches to better understand host–microbiota relationships in translational contexts.

She currently leads the Metabolomics & Proteomics team at BIOASTER in Lyon. Most recently, Dr. Sarafian presented her lipidomics work using the Thermo Fisher Orbitrap ASTRAL at the Metabolomics Society Conference in Prague (June 2025), alongside proteomics, metaproteomics, and immunopeptidomics projects led by her team. Her work exemplifies the bridge between cutting-edge analytical science and biomedical research, driving forward new insights into health and disease.
