Dr. Florian Richter

Principal Scientist Gene Editing at Bayer Pharma | Germany

Dr. Florian Richter is a principal scientist in the gene editing group of Bayer Pharma. Since joining Bayer in 2016, Dr. Richter has contributed to the establishment of a portfolio of genome editing technologies such as CRISPR nucleases and other effectors. In addition. Dr. Richter was involved in several enzyme engineering projects for large-scale biocatalytic processes. Before joining Bayer, Dr. Richter was a postdoctoral researcher at Humboldt-University Berlin, where he collaborated with Emmanuelle Charpentier on the engineering of light-activatable Cas9-Variants. Dr. Richter obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 2012, where he worked on early enzyme design efforts in the lab of David Baker, and holds an M.Sc. in Biochemistry from ETH Zurich.
